Cathy Dorwick - Galena Center for the arts, Galena, IL Cathy Dorwick served as an active member of the Galena Artists' Guild as the Guild’s facilitator, PR representative and curator of their ongoing Chestnut Mountain Art Show. She had been a student of local Galena artist Janet Checker and has recently taken watercolor painting workshops in Pennsylvania. Prior to moving to Galena, she attended painting classes in both Washington State as well as Indiana. Cathy grew up in the western suburbs of Chicago. After marrying her husband Kevin, his career gave them the opportunity to travel and to live in many locations around the country while they raised their two children. Over those early years, she divided up her time as a mother and a volunteer in social services, which included a stay in Nicaragua. Now, she and Kevin are settled down permanently in Galena, Illinois. In recent years, Cathy has enjoyed exploring her art medium, first working with acrylics and now oils and watercolors. As with most artists early in their career, she is also exploring different styles from the primitive in her creation of rural scenes from Jo Daviess County, to her continued work toward the impressionistic style. Cathy prefers to take photos of nature scenes as her subjects both in painting and with her second love, photography. One of her photos was included in the Galena Territory’s calendar as well as the Jo-Carroll Energy calendar both in the year 2014. Currently Cathy has a painting at the Galena History Museum depicting an historical portrait with local landmarks as part of a yearlong exhibit. She has also been commissioned to paint a light house scenes on the shores of the great lakes. She now displays and practices her art in her rented studio at the Galena Center for the Arts.Type your paragraph here.
